RÓISÍN & CONNOR: REAL BRIDE STORY

  • Our wedding was around the 12th of September 2020, a really special date as it is my parents' anniversary (39 years married) as well as Connors mothers' birthday. We got married at The Clandeboye Lodge Hotel in Bangor. Connor and I met after I came home from traveling and Connor has been building his farm whilst working full-time. We went on a date and also the rest as the saying goes is history.

As for that proposal, I was on holiday in Florence, Italy when we unexpectedly bought the diamond engagement ring. We went for a stroll over the Ponte Vecchio Bridge which for anybody that does not know is a famous bridge in Florence although we didn't realize the majority of the stores around the bridge were jewelers. Of course, I had to visit window shopping, and also the very first window I investigated; I saw my diamond engagement ring. When Connor came to see what I was looking at, I just casually pointed towards the ring and as I was walking away I just said, 'If you're ever considering proposing, this is the style of ring I'd like. That's when he explained we needed to visit back and obtain that ring as he'd already put the first deposit down inside a local Jewellers in your own home but he hadn't seen anything such as the ring I'd just shown him. It was so funny because I had broken my pinky on my small left hand also it was strapped as much as my wedding finger so I couldn't even check it out. I tried it on my small right hand instead and so the lady needed to rush to have it resized before closing as I was leaving early the next morning. Connor then explained that he desired to ask my parents first and that I wouldn't be seeing the ring for any while. He proposed 8 weeks later in Edinburgh following a day of gin tasting.

I was built with a little concept of the style I was after but went in unbiased. I visited 4 bridal shops near me as a whole and tried on about 10 gowns. I thought I'd found my dress yourself in the third shop, it had been another FeelTimes dress but I just wasn't 100% onto it as I had scoliosis becoming an adult and have been shy about showing my back, although everyone tells me you'd don't know I had it. So, my sister explained to book yet another appointment in another shop and when I didn't see anything, then I is going for that dress.

I felt like my dress had some lovely features such as the round collar, deep v back, full buttons towards the train, and also the embellished belt. I didn't wish to take the shine from it an excessive amount so I wore some Paul Costello pearl earrings that Connor got for me and a simple diamond bracelet that my pal lent in my experience. I also wore some beautifully embellished hair slides from The Little Pearl Company along with a beautiful barely-there veil with scattered Swarovski crystals from Cotswold Wedding Veils on Etsy.

The planning process have been a breeze until a worldwide pandemic arrived. For some reason, I just had these feelings that we would be able to visit ahead with this wedding, in some way. We just desired to get married. Don't get me wrong, there have been plenty of tears on the way but which was mainly down towards the uncertainty from it all, but we've got there ultimately.

For other brides, my advice could be to try to keep things simple then nothing much will go wrong. I was ready to have to change our date if we required to and was keeping everyone informed around I could.

There are lots of best bits from your day but I'd need to say I'll always remember the feeling of turning the corner into the chapel and seeing Connor after the aisle and my loved ones and friends all smiling at me. I discrete this huge sigh of relief and merely felt the load of the past 7 months lifts. We never stopped smiling the entire day.

The funniest part should be the wedding cars wearing down... twice! There is a funny picture of Connor in the tux underneath the bonnet because it broke down bringing the boys to chapel first nevertheless when they acquired my bridesmaids. We found it hilarious because there have been so many setbacks around the lead-up towards the wedding that something was bound to happen, which was not so bad. The cars were old but so beautiful not to mention because Covid, was not getting out around them accustomed to.

I will just say that people always remember this year however for all the right reasons. We got married and built a home and we're so happy. Long may it continue.
